ser libre print and textile collection
(Bachelor Degree Graduate Collection, Aalto University, 2018)
This graduate collection was created as my final degree project for the Bachelor’s Programme in Fashion, Clothing and Textile Design at Aalto University in 2018. The collection explores experimental textile techniques and material combinations, with a strong focus on handmade processes and surface development.I developed my own cut out printing technique by hand cutting stencils for pigment printing, using the technique to create unique printed surfaces on different textiles. The collection combines self knitted fabrics with pleating, bonding and printing, as well as pigment printing on deadstock faux fur.
By layering and combining these techniques, I explored how textiles can be transformed through contrasting structures, surfaces and materials. In addition to creating all of the textile artworks and materials, I designed and constructed every garment in the collection myself. The collection also includes handmade accessories, including shoes, hats and bags, incorporating the same experimental, mixed technique approach as the garments and textiles.
The collection was presented at the Aalto University fashion show in 2018 and later exhibited as part of the Fashion Wednesday event at Kiasma in 2019. Individual garments from the collection have also been repeatedly borrowed for styling and various creative projects.
