Illustrations, Logomark, and Logo for Sommar Bistro, Turku
We created illustrations, an illustrated logomark, and a full logo for Sommar, a summer restaurant in Turku. Sommar offers relaxed, Finnish summer-inspired dishes made from fresh, local ingredients. The menu changes almost weekly and sometimes even daily depending on what the chefs pick up from local farmers’ markets.The logo captures this light, spontaneous vibe, reminiscent of a “shopping list” or a handwritten summer note. Hundreds of ink sketches were explored, curated, and refined into the final design.The logomark draws from the restaurant’s name. Sommar means “summer” in Swedish, reflecting Turku’s strong Swedish-speaking heritage. The sun motif also subtly nods to Southern Italian influences, inspired by the head chef. This includes references to Sicily’s Three-Legged Symbol (Trinacria) and traditional sun symbols in Italian art and ceramics.
